The 2011 Watersports Games will be hosted in the Bideford area this July bringing with it a fantastic opportunity to watch some exciting international sports but also putting pressure on the local accommodation resources. The events that run from July 23 to 28 include surfing, surf life saving, surf kayaking, kite surfing, sailing sea kayaking and rowing for competitors under 21. The two big local events are the opening and closing ceremony at Bideford Quay and the kite surfing along the 2 mile sandy beach at Westward Ho!.
This is an excellent time to visit the area as the games will certainly generate an extra buzz and there will be lots to see and do. However with it being the first week of the school holidays accommodation is already in short supply.
Estimates on the number of visitors to the events seem to range from 20,000 to 100,000 people! We therefore urge you to book accommodation sooner rather than later if you are looking to come to the area between the 23 – 28th July or a week either side of the main events.
There is a wide range of accommodation in the area from caravan parks to self catering cottages and apartments. Appledore also has a wide range of cottages for hire which are all listed on our Appledore sister site.
We have done a brief check of all the accommodation providers in the area and Farm and Cottage Holidays still have 14 cottages/apartments left for the week and blue chip have 11 (as of 21/5/2011). We have included links below that will take you directly to their search page for the week of the Atlantic Watersport Games.
